These photos were made in 1998 in Havana in a mecca for dancing and dance bands. The open-air club on Avenida 41 is where many Cubans, young and old, escape the struggles of everyday life and connect to cultural roots. Although the images were shot on black & white film, I’ve since digitally painted them to match the mood of liberation and abandonment.
