Lewisham
These black + white images were made in 1999, taken in the maternity wing of the then-new Women’s and Children’s division of Lewisham Hospital in southeast London. The portraits were improvised quickly, on the spot, momentary interactions in which willing subjects gave back to the camera. Each image has since undergone varying degrees of digital revision, including erasure and assertive additions of color meant to further focus the engagement between subject, setting and camera.
